I have a tendency to get addicted to things whether alcohol, drugs, social media, spending money, sugar, etc—there’s like this never ending void within me that always craves more. When I got sober almost 2 years ago, I started getting a handle on these tendencies by creating more than I was consuming.
Here’s how creativity has transformed parts of my life since then:
I’ve (mostly) stopped running from myself and avoiding the shadows within me—the parts of myself that I judge as not good enough, wrong & shameful. Creative expression has helped me be gentler, kinder and more accepting to all of these parts. Life is way less stressful from this approach.
Creativity puts me in touch with my desires & dreams, and I’ve been bringing them to life, which is wildly fulfilling and energizing to experience. It has introduced me to a power within myself I didn’t know I was previously capable of.
The more creative I allow myself to get, the more courageous & resilient I become. Especially lately, I’ve been crushing fear in its mother fkn face 💁♀️ like, I taught my first painting class finally, and that’s something I've dreamed of for years, but was too scared to. Not anymore bitches!!!! ;)
Creativity has encouraged me to feel more comfortable & safe being seen in my authenticity, that my perspective matters and it lessens the intensity of feeling rejected. It’s liberating af.
Sharing my creativity has even helped my dating life because I'm feeling more comfortable & confident in expressing my needs and wants, instead of being a people-pleaser to get “acceptance” from potential partners.
Crazy how impactful creativity is in all parts of our lives.
If you want to feel some of these empowering effects of creativity, start creating more!! It doesn’t matter what it is or what it looks like. your intuition will develop & guide you. Allow the desires of your heart to lead you.
